In 2009 I had dropped out of college twice and was working in a restaurant. I felt lost and defeated, as I had tried to follow the steps to success that I was taught, but it never felt aligned with who I truly am beneath the surface.

I never fit in, and I always ended up burned out.

When I wasn’t at work waiting tables, I’d often wonder how I could bring the whispers of my deeper truths and purpose to life, so I could live beyond survival mode without having to sacrifice my heart and soul.

I had always been deeply interested in intuition, Earth connection, healing, and magic, so I decided to start an online project that I hoped would turn into a business and a career. I was totally alone in this, with no support or community to help guide me.

I honestly didn’t even know if there WAS a place for people like me to be successful and thrive in this world.

Even though I felt like a total imposter and fool, I started by posting a video to YouTube that guided people to connect with and send healing energy to sea turtles for protection.

After that I put together a question and answer website for people to ask, learn, share, and connect over all topics related to intuition, magic, Earth connection, and healing. I planned on writing articles and interviewing people for the site, too. I thought that if anything would help me find my people and start a career helping people in this field, this would be it.

Not long after posting my first video and launching my site, I FREAKED OUT because I was so afraid for people to see this part of me and judge me. I felt ashamed for my interests and beliefs, and part of me believed that this just wasn’t possible.

Fueled by doubt and self-sabotage I deleted my video on YouTube and abandoned my website.

After self-sabotaging my attempt to grow a business that felt aligned with my true passion and purpose, I once again found myself back in college trying to fit myself into the least soul-crushing career path I could find. As a budding scientist, I kept my interests in intuition and Earth magic a deeply hidden secret for fear that I’d be discredited if anyone ever found me out.

Almost 6 long years after I deleted my video and abandoned my website, I was working on my Master’s degree in soil science when I came across a podcast where the guest shared an idea I hadn’t heard before.

They shared about how limiting beliefs live deep in our subconscious minds and can wreak havoc on our lives in the forms of inner resistance, fear, doubt, shame, and self-sabotage.

I felt like I had been punched in the gut, as I realized that’s exactly what happened with my freak out and subsequent abandonment of my dreams to pursue a career in the intuitive arts. I knew this person was sharing something important.

While I grappled with the idea that there were beliefs living in my subconscious controlling my decisions and actions…

…deep down I knew that this concept held the key to my success in any area of my life, personal or public!

I started learning and using different tools to try to transmute the limiting beliefs that were holding me back from living aligned with my true purpose and potential.

I invested hundreds of dollars to try different belief change modalities. As a grad student living on a stipend that left me below the poverty line, this was a scary thing to do! Investing in myself this way meant that I hardly ever bought new clothes, traveled, or went out to eat and party with friends.

It was worth it, though, because I soon found myself flooded with new inspiration and confidence.

I even started a new business helping farmers and gardeners.

I did private soil sampling consultations with small, local farmers, and I began making gardening videos and posting them to YouTube.

This time I didn’t freak out, and I even started to grow some traction. Farmers were loving my services, and I started growing a small following of people who liked what I taught on YouTube.

Then one day in July 2015, the stars aligned.

I unexpectedly found myself with a second chance to pursue my passion for intuition, Earth connection, healing, and magic when my sister and I connected over an idea to start a podcast about nature and intuitive development.

I was still in school, so I only had enough time and energy to pursue one side-project. I had to decide whether to keep growing my budding farm and garden consultation and teaching business or to once again dive into my deepest passion and make something about exploring intuitive development.

While I loved my work with farmers and could make a happy life for myself with my science career, thinking about never taking another chance at pursuing a path in intuitive development made my gut sink.

Even though it made no logical sense, I knew that if I didn’t take this chance to pursue my true passion, I might never dive as deeply into the intuitive arts as my heart and soul truly wanted to, leaving me to always wonder, “What if…?”

I shut down my budding business helping farmers and gardeners. While finishing my Master’s degree in soil science, I dove with excitement and renewed vigor for life into creating a podcast about nature and intuition.

The same old doubts and fears that caused me to self-sabotage my first business popped up while creating the podcast.

This time, instead of self-sabotaging progress towards my deepest dreams, I could recognize the resistance, fear, and doubt and then use my tools to help me move through the limiting beliefs in my subconscious and even come out on the other side stronger and more confident.

My podcasts ended up attracting an audience of kindred spirits showing not only me, but also them, that people like us aren’t alone and that there IS a place for us and our magic in the world.

Now, 10 years after my initial attempt to share my videos on Earth magic on YouTube, I don’t have to wonder, “What if?” because I’m now living the dream that called to me all those years ago, and it’s more deeply fulfilling and beautiful than I would have ever imagined it would be.

What is resistance?

Resistance is a form of self-sabotage that prevents you from fully expressing yourself or putting effort into anything that challenges your subconscious fear of change. It often arises as a LOUD, convincing voice - coming up with excuses or reasons NOT to do something that you know you might enjoy. Other times resistance shows up as fear: fear of going to a new country, fear of attending a workshop where you don't know anyone, fear or showing up and embracing the real you. Sometimes resistance is in response to outside forces - like your car breaking down on your way to a retreat - that challenge you about whether you are truly willing to show up and experience the transformations awaiting you.

Why does resistance arise?

There are egoic forces within us that try to keep us locked into our comfortable patterns. When you are about to take a big step towards transformation, the ego feels threatened and tries to find a way to cling to the old, safe patterns. Weird how the ego flares up with doubts, fears, and resistance to keep you safe from the things you dream of and desire, right?!

Are online courses really effective?

It’s true that in-person communities are super potent, and I once thought that the only way to be part of a supportive, empowering community or get benefits from a course was in real life. Then I started listening to podcasts of people I have never met or even talked to, yet they felt like friends and even helped me to change my life. Then, when I had started a podcast of my own, I began connecting with people live on video calls. Every single time, people would remark that they were amazed at how intimate it felt to be connected, even though we were all on computers around the world. I’m still amazed at how fun and powerful it is to hang out with kindred spirits online in both courses and in our weekly Earth Speak Collective community calls. I kept my intuitive interests completely secret and hidden for years because I feared I would be called crazy, lose respect of friends and family, and end up all alone in the world. Then I learned that there were other people like me, and when we connected and started sharing our secret selves, we had so much in common and even became friends! I found whole new communities of true friends because I chose the right people to share my true self with, and this accelerated my ability to trust my intuition.
