Connecting with Fairies, Wee Folk & Little People

plus an epic book list!

If you go back to pre-Christian times in any ancestral heritage, you will find folklore, traditions, or magic associated with nature spirits. Today these spirits are often referred to as wee folk or little people.

Every culture has a different name for them, like fairies, Tuatha Dé Danann, Kontomble, leprechauns, etc., and yet across ancient cultures these beings are respected not as mere fantasies fit for children’s fairytale books, but rather as immensely powerful beings with the ability to create and destroy.

It is only since the coming of Christianity and in more modern times the Industrial age, that we have relegated the wee folk to the land of child’s play, all while forgetting ourselves as part of nature as well.

Despite this, many folks today have a memory, story, or experience about sensing or connecting with nature spirits like fairies, gnomes, sprites, or other wee folks. Often these memories are tucked away in a far corner of one’s brain where they’re covered in a dusty layer of disbelief after being told that these things aren’t real or are demonic.

Even as our modern society doesn’t acknowledge the living spirits of nature, these beings continue to go about their daily dances of anchoring radiant energetic frequencies into the earth while tending to the growth of nature.

Most people are even already perceiving the work of the wee folk without recognizing it as such.

Just like if you don’t know how to recognize a note you’re hearing without looking at a tuner, you likely don’t know how to recognize the energetic presence of fairies because you just aren’t attuned to it.

However, just like you’re able to hear sounds without knowing what notes they are, you are also able to perceive the work of the wee folk without knowing it was made by them.

Once you attune to the energetic awareness of the wee folks’ presence, you can begin to cultivate a more conscious relationship with them full of rich rewards like deepened awareness of beauty, an abundant flow of inspiration, and more playfulness and pleasure in everyday life.

You can attune to their energy by noticing how you feel when you experience a forest, the ocean, or a lovingly tended garden.

You might experience awe and expansiveness or a refreshing awakening of your senses.

This is because of the energetic frequencies anchored by nature spirits who tend to these spaces. These frequencies are full of aliveness and creative energy.

This energy can be worked with for healing of both humans and the environment, as well as for guidance, inspiration, and co-creative play.

Many nature spirits are benevolent towards humans and are more than willing to assist us and co-create with us if only we ask.

I recently had a wee folk encounter in my garden where I asked them for guidance about where to put a bench. Next noticed my attention being drawn to a certain spot by the fence. In my body, I felt warmth and yumminess.

Then went to another spot and asked, “What about here?”

Immediately I felt something poking my foot, like a twig in my shoe.

I said, “Ok, noted, you don’t like this spot!” and the pokey thing went away.

It very well may have been an actual twig, and yet the spirits were able to use it to communicate very clearly that they didn’t like that spot for a bench!

Then a little later an idea popped in my mind to make a tiny bench for the wee folk to put beneath the big bench, so everyone can feel invited to hang out. In my body, this felt fizzy and energizing, a big YES!

You can learn to do this, too.

We recommend that you don’t try to complicate things. Let it be simple and easy, trusting your senses and the signs that show up as you open the doors to wee folk relationships.

How to begin connecting with the wee folk:

Bring to mind how it feels when you experience a place like a lovingly tended garden, an enchanted forest, or the ocean.

Notice the sensations in your body and any other sensory perceptions that arise.

This is your calibration process.

Later, when you catch yourself feeling this way, you can start speaking to the nature spirits around you and let them know you appreciate their fine creations.

They LOVE to know that humans appreciate what they’ve made.

With pure intentions and no hidden agendas, you can share that you’d like to get to know them better.

From here you can ask questions, just as you’d ask a new friend questions, or you can sing them a song. Wee folk LOVE music and songs. You can invite them to co-create with you as you make art or tinker in your garden.

You’ll most likely experience your wee folk connection through the same channels you experience your intuition.

You may get a download or an inspiration. A tune might pop in your head out of nowhere. You might get an impulse to put a certain plant in that corner over there, or you might be extra playful that day.

External signs might indicate that you’re connected as well, such as the wind picking up when you ask to be connected.

If you’ve ever micro-dosed psilocybin, then you might be familiar with the extra vibrancy or lightness one feels. Playing and co-creating with the wee folk can be very similar! It’s subtle, and yet it’s powerful.
